Inspired by Jesus and Steve Irwin, I am a mixed media illustrator with a passion for wildlife conservation. Having been taught by traditional painter Vilas Tonape at Trinidad State, I furthered my education at the University of Colorado, Denver (earning a Bachelors of Fine Art, specializing in Illustration). I hope to provide artistic significance through researched, human intention and prioritize textural mark-making with charcoal and various 'scratchings.' Digital media has also been a large part of my education and work, but I find myself moving more often towards the simple and solid nowadays. I strive to create tangible illustrations invested in both Colorado’s natural history and its future.
I am currently working on a 'petroglyph' project looking to provide a rustic and illustrative lens concerning Colorado’s endangered and keystone species. All of the materials are collected from the natural 'scapes of Southern Colorado and is 100% recycled and 'of the earth.' I work as locally as possible since being rooted to the land is what allows growth to happen.
